Barbie is coming!!

Barbie is coming to Broadway! Yes, that's right. Barbie will be making an appearance on Broadway this Sunday, June 14th. I personally am excited to see what Barbie looks like in 2009. So if you're needing something to do this Sunday come on down and check out Barbie, meet some of the designers of Barbie at Spa Sidney and maybe get a Barbie makeover while you're there. We will be hosting a "Design Your Glamour Headband" workshop for $10, all materials included. Kreme de la Kreme will have Barbie manis & pedis. Next door to us, DDR Projects will have a group artist Barbie exhibit(can't wait to see that). Oh, and did I mention we will have pink drinks and pink cupcakes, by Pastry Chef Vanessa Alvino. Should be a good time.

Workshop News!

Sorry to report the "Painted Wine Glasses" workshop has been cancelled on May 28th, but hopefully we'll be able to reschedule with Steph Calvert on that one.

Coming up on Wed. June 3rd artist Lisafaye Dawson will be leading an art workshop. She will be teaching us how she creates her wonderful pieces (her mixed media pieces are on display at the store right now), using handmade paper, decoupage, paint and great imagination. All materials will be provided to create your own piece of art, just bring scissors and creativity! Materials and fee is only $25! See the really bad picture I took of a sample piece.

Call the store or come in to prepay for this workshop to reserve your spot, since we have limited space. Wed, June 3rd from 6pm-9pm. (562)433-5890

We are also very excited to announce that we will be part of the "Barbie on Broadway" Party that Spa Sidney is hosting on Sunday, June 14th from 1pm-5pm. Celebration of Barbie's 5oth Anniversary! Meet the Barbie Designers, Manis and Pedis by Kreme de la Kreme, Barbie Art Exibit by DDR Projects and more! "The Kids..." will be leading a "Glamour Barbie Headband" workshop for this event. Oh and lots of treats from EJ Malloy's, Olives and Lashers. Should be a fun and glamorous time. All ages welcome.

Spa Sidney is located at 3519 E. Broadway. For more info call them at (562)433-9665.

Coming soon will be Knitting and Felt Accessories workshops.

Jewelry Trunk Show this Thursday!

We are excited to host another trunk show for Anne A. Designs this Thursday! She will be introducing her new line, "Jeans Collection". This collection features beautiful necklaces, bracelets and earrings in sterling silver accented with delicately placed gems. One of my favorite pieces is the peace bracelet (pictured).

If you're still in search of that perfect Mother's Day (May 1oth) gift please join us this Thursday from 6pm-9pm. As usual we'll provide the wine, treats and great shopping.
We'd also like to thank everyone who came out on Saturday for Lisafaye Dawson's art show and the Bel Kai trunk show. Lisafaye's show is almost half sold out. If you didn't make it please stop in and check out what's left. She also does commission pieces and she's awesome. I have my choice narrowed down to two pieces. Hopefully I can make a decision before those pieces are gone as well.
Hope to see you Thursday!

Artist Reception this Saturday, May 2nd!

We are hosting a reception for local artist Lisafaye Dawson, this Saturday, May 2nd, from 5pm-8pm! Her mixed media pieces are amazing and surprisingly affordable. I have my eye on a few of her pieces. Her work will be up for the next month, so if you can't make it Saturday be sure to stop by and check out her work. Times are tough, but investing in art is always a good thing.
The Outfit will also be hosting a trunk show for Bel Kai Jewelry that same day. Beautiful designs by Whitney Hill. The Outfit will have all their handmade kids for 30% Off, and The Kids... will have selected items at 25% Off, including some of our new Spring stuff.
Join us Saturday for some Art, Jewelry, Wine & Treats. Don't forget Mother's Day is Sun, May 10th! Hope to see you there.

Busted By Bio-diesel But Still Trying

We hope everyone took time out on Wed. to celebrate Earth Day. At "The Kids..." we had 2 great workshops this month and we want to thank all those who came out. A special thanks to Kim Kessler and Steph Calvert for leading our workshops. Hopefully we can all continue doing little or big things to reuse, reduce and recycle.
A few things that my household has committed to:

No more plastic sandwich bags, only reusable storage containers.

No juice boxes, only reusable water bottles.

We purchased a Brita water filter, (the water bottles in the recycling container were getting out of control).

Replacing all the light bulbs with energy efficient lighting.

I'm working on remembering to bring my canvas bags to the market. Although I do reuse all the paper bags for recycling. Definitely no plastic.

Check out http://www.storyofstuff.com/. It's a 20 minute animation of the consumerist society, narrated by Anne Leonard. We could all use a little reminder about how all our consumerism effects our environment directly.

Now on a sad note my Mercedes 300E that was converted to run on veggie oil about 2 years ago has been converted back to just run on diesel. Unfortunately the conversion that we did has slowly over the past few years ruined our fuel system. We haven't completely figured out if it has to do with the year of our car (1998) or if it is that we don't know enough about the effects the veggie oil has on a diesel engine. Not to discourage anyone from getting their diesel engine converted, but definitely do a lot of research before you do. We haven't given up on the idea, but we are taking some time to figure it all out. We'll keep you posted.
