Busted By Bio-diesel But Still Trying

We hope everyone took time out on Wed. to celebrate Earth Day. At "The Kids..." we had 2 great workshops this month and we want to thank all those who came out. A special thanks to Kim Kessler and Steph Calvert for leading our workshops. Hopefully we can all continue doing little or big things to reuse, reduce and recycle.
A few things that my household has committed to:

No more plastic sandwich bags, only reusable storage containers.

No juice boxes, only reusable water bottles.

We purchased a Brita water filter, (the water bottles in the recycling container were getting out of control).

Replacing all the light bulbs with energy efficient lighting.

I'm working on remembering to bring my canvas bags to the market. Although I do reuse all the paper bags for recycling. Definitely no plastic.

Check out http://www.storyofstuff.com/. It's a 20 minute animation of the consumerist society, narrated by Anne Leonard. We could all use a little reminder about how all our consumerism effects our environment directly.

Now on a sad note my Mercedes 300E that was converted to run on veggie oil about 2 years ago has been converted back to just run on diesel. Unfortunately the conversion that we did has slowly over the past few years ruined our fuel system. We haven't completely figured out if it has to do with the year of our car (1998) or if it is that we don't know enough about the effects the veggie oil has on a diesel engine. Not to discourage anyone from getting their diesel engine converted, but definitely do a lot of research before you do. We haven't given up on the idea, but we are taking some time to figure it all out. We'll keep you posted.
